Overview

Marc Haas represents domestic and foreign insurers and reinsurers in a wide array of insurance and reinsurance disputes. A trusted adviser to clients and seasoned litigator, Marc provides a tailored, practical approach to mitigating risk and navigating complex coverage matters in state and federal courts nationwide and alternative dispute resolution forums. 
 
Marc advises clients on a broad spectrum of coverage issues, including environmental, first-party property, primary and excess, commercial general liability, umbrella, construction (Owner Controlled Insurance Program and Contractor Controlled Insurance Program) and reinsurance matters.  
 
Prior to joining Stradley Ronon, Marc served as special counsel at an Am Law 100 firm in New York.

Representative Matters

  • Represent insurers in a multidistrict litigation involving more than 10,000 underlying cases involving various causes of action arising out of damages caused by exposure to aqueous film-forming foams (AFFF).
  • Secured a complete defense verdict for a global reinsurer in a dispute involving a reinsurer’s attempt to aggregate more than 10,000 workers compensation claims involving alleged workplace exposure to COVID-19.
  • Provided coverage analysis in connection with a construction defect, property damage and business interruption claim exceeding $1 billion.
  • Advised and monitored outside counsel on multidistrict litigation involving pharmaceutical products liability claims.
  • Represented an insurer in a declaratory judgment action involving claims for coverage concerning environmental contamination at an aerospace manufacturing facility.
  • Advised an insurer on a complex insurance coverage dispute regarding a crane collapse involving many lawsuits against the named insured and other parties who sought coverage as additional insureds.
  • Represented insurers in federal and state court cases in Connecticut involving property damage claims related to the use of allegedly defective concrete.
  • Settled a case in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York involving a coverage dispute concerning the application of the policies’ “other insurance” provision and exhaustion of underlying limits after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ordered certain questions be certified to the California Supreme Court.
  • Obtained summary judgment in favor of an insurer in a declaratory judgment action involving the partial collapse of a parking garage.
  • Secured pre-answer dismissal for breach of contract and bad faith allegations arising out of an insurer’s disclaimer of coverage for claims involving property damage and business interruption related to COVID-19 and various executive orders.
