CHICAGO — Adding depth to the firm’s investment management and corporate tax capabilities, Stradley Ronon has welcomed Richard E. Peterson as a partner in the Chicago office. Rich joins from Perkins Coie and will continue to focus on sophisticated tax matters involving regulated investment companies, investment funds and corporate transactions.
“Rich is uniquely positioned as a jack of all trades in handling both fund and corporate transactional tax matters,” said Dean Krishna, partner and chair of the firm’s tax practice. “He has seen it all when it comes to navigating clients on a range of onshore and offshore taxation matters, and this type of experience is particularly exciting as it provides immense value for our clients across the country.”
Rich has a deep breadth of experience in partnership tax planning and has been involved in significant mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, including taxable and tax-free transactions with both asset and stock acquisitions. He has extensive knowledge of real estate investment trusts (REITs) and is also well versed in tax litigation, covering all aspects of IRS controversy work.
“We are incredibly enthusiastic that Rich has joined us in Chicago,” said Mark Greer, partner-in-charge of the firm’s Chicago office. “His wealth of tax services and knowledge of various tax disciplines will support our regional and national clients involved in M&A, private equity, emerging companies and venture capital, investment management and corporate matters.”
Rich’s arrival follows a number of recent additions bolstering the firm’s commitment to expanding its national presence and providing exceptional service with top legal talent from government, corporations and other leading law firms. In October, investment management partners Stuart Coleman, David Stephens and William MacGregor joined from Proskauer Rose in New York; investment management partner Brian Murphy joined from Vanguard in August in Philadelphia; and partners Jesse Kanach, co-chair of the private investment funds practice, and Mark Attar, co-chair of the broker-dealer practice, joined in July in Washington, D.C., from Perkins Coie and Davis Wright Tremaine, respectively.
