PHILADELPHIA – Stradley Ronon is pleased to announce that Partner Mark E. Chopko presented at the National Catholic Risk Retention Group’s Winter Meeting in Savannah, Georgia, on Feb. 6. Chopko’s presentation, “The Church and Public Policy,” a topic that is the intersection between law and religion. A major emphasis of his practice is working with religious institutions to assure that they can operate consistent with their values and exercise their constitutional right to speak to issues of public concern.
With Jennifer Gniady, Chopko co-chairs the firm’s nonprofit and religious organizations practice group and advises clients, including colleges and universities, in matters involving structural, business, governance, regulatory and complex litigation. A former general counsel for the U.S. Conference on Catholic Bishops, he has participated in more than 30 Supreme Court cases as counsel for religious groups in friend-of-the-Court briefs. He is also a member of the National Diocesan Attorneys Association, Religious Liberty Committee of the National Council of the Churches and Church Law Society.
