PHILADELPHIA — The Investment Company Institute (ICI) invited three Stradley Ronon partners to participate in panel discussions at the 2025 Investment Management Conference in San Diego, California on March 17-19, 2025. The three panelists, as well as numerous Stradley Ronon lawyers, shared insights from the event in our Heard in the Hall video series.
Partner Eric Purple’s panel, titled “Challenges and Opportunities: Assessing the Fund Industry’s Regulatory Future,” discussed the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)’s current rulemaking agenda for funds and advisers. The panel explored the potential for rulemaking to allow for greater innovation in the coming years.
Three years ago, the ICI tapped Stradley Ronon to provide counsel as it began the first comprehensive review of the Investment Company Act of 1940 in over three decades. Partner Bruce Leto took part in a panel titled, “Reimagining the 1940 Act: Key Recommendations from ICI’s Multi-Year Review,” which discussed the major findings of the review and the 19 recommendations it yielded under four themes: fostering innovation, expanding investor access, reducing costs and leveraging expertise.
The first ETF share class within a multiple share class structure was launched almost 25 years ago, and multiple fund sponsors are seeking to provide this offering to investors. Partner Brian Murphy joined a panel discussion titled, “You Stay Classy, San Diego: A Discussion on ETF Share Classes,” to detail the latest regulatory developments and practical considerations.
