CHERRY HILL, N.J. — Stradley Ronon partner David Roeber has been recognized with the 2024 Martin Luther King, Jr. Freedom Medal by Camden County, New Jersey. The award, created by the Camden County Board of Commissioners in 2001, is presented to civic leaders who have selflessly contributed their time and effort to better their community in conjunction with the goals of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. David was honored at an awards ceremony on January 17 in Collingswood, New Jersey.
David’s deep commitment to ensuring support for fragile communities in the county began as a student at Rutgers Law School–Camden, where he volunteered for the school’s Domestic Violence Clinic. David and his wife, Meredith, then became a licensed resource family for New Jersey’s foster care system, ultimately adopting two children.
In 2014, David began volunteering with UrbanPromise, a nonprofit that helps Camden-area families remove barriers to their success across several areas, serving on its corporate committee and assisting with fundraising efforts. Recognizing the significant need for legal services in the community, David worked with the organization to help launch what would become the Volunteer UP Legal Clinic.
In the clinic’s early years, David served as volunteer lead attorney and assisted with all aspects of its operations, including performing intake, representing clients, recruiting and organizing volunteer lawyers, managing open cases and building out infrastructure. David continues to serve on the clinic’s advisory board and sits on the founding board of directors. In 2023, the clinic assisted more than 375 clients.
David also serves as a member of Stradley Ronon’s diversity and pro bono committees and as pro bono liaison for the firm’s Cherry Hill office. He is a part of the firm’s nationally recognized investment management practice and counsels registered investment companies, their independent trustees/directors and investment advisers on a variety of governance, regulatory, compliance and corporate matters.
